In 2023, Ebony Analytics Africa collaborated with the South African Presidency and Masimanyane Women's Rights International to produce a short documentary titled "Crafting African Solutions Together to End Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG)," under the Decoloniality to Ending VAWG Project. The aim of this project was to address the issue of VAWG in Africa by exploring the impact of colonial legacy on social structure and gender constructs. The documentary emphasized the importance of understanding the historical and societal contexts that have abetted perpetuation of violence against women and girls. By embracing the spirit of Ubuntu and focusing on common humanity, the documentary highlighted the necessity of reclaiming freedom, equality, and justice. It critiqued the colonial imagination that marginalizes non-normative gendered realities and underscored the urgent need for broad interventions to combat VAWG.

The rationale for the documentary was to humanize the struggles of women and girls by raising awareness through contemporary and a more visual approach, different from the traditional approaches that have long been used to address gender issues.

The documentary had multifaceted objectives: i) to tell the stories of decoloniality from victims' perspectives, ii) heighten public awareness, iii) document the interplay of coloniality and traditions in VAWG, iv) reposition decoloniality as a frontier for gender liberation, and v) create policy-level discourse. The video segments showcased historical and contemporary violence, the impact on gender relations and economic trends, responses from social movements and governments, and success stories of decoloniality efforts. The documentary provided a comprehensive view of the past, present, and future of decoloniality in addressing VAWG, ultimately envisioning a liberated and just society for women and girls.
